So you have finally made the decision that you want to transform some part of your property but don’t know what the next step is or who to call? Not a problem, below are just a few tips provided by MasterPLAN to follow when you are looking for a great landscape designer / installer:
There are so many landscape design / installation companies out there today that claim they are the best, how do you choose the right one? I would first suggest asking family, friends and/or neighbors who they would recommend. Normally, word-of-mouth references are the best, as the person recommending most likely has first hand experience with the company. Next, you should search the web. A website can tell you a lot about a companies design / installation style, history, services, and specialties. Make sure they have testimonials on their website because if a company is providing top notch customer service and installation they should have great testimonials displayed.

The last thing you want to do is to hire the “contractor from hell” by making a quick uninformed decision. Start by seeing what other homeowners are saying about the landscape companies that you selected. Find out by searching Google, Yahoo, Angie’s list and even Facebook to see if the landscape firm you want to call has good or bad reviews. This should help you make a good informed decision. If you find the firm doesn’t have any reviews than you should probably skip that company and select another with great reviews.
Once you do all of your due diligence, it is time to contact 2-3 companies (with reviews) that stand out to you. Whether you call or email the company by filling out the “contact us” form on the website, you should receive a call/email back in one to two business days.
When first meeting with the prospective landscaping company, keep these four questions in the back of your mind:
#1 – Is this person really listening to me or are they telling me what my choices are?
#2 – Do you think you could trust this person and work with them for the whole project?
#3 – Did they show up to your meeting on time?
#4 – Did this person really take the time to fully understand your needs and ideas?
If after the meeting you answer YES to all of these questions, congratulations you probably just found the right company to work with!
